The total output of coatings in China
reached 5.97 million tons in 2007, which was up 17.62% over the
output in 2006. Output of industrial paint was 4.18 million tons (up
16.2%), construction paint 1.80 million tons (up 6%). Coatings
imports were 243,000 tons (down 5.1%) and exports 206,000 tons (up
6.7%) over the same period. Including the top ten, there are well
over 50 foreign coating manufacturers operating in China and
numerous joint ventures on resins, pigments and additives.
China is taking big steps in the
policy guidelines for coatings, and environmental protection has
