Summary |
: |
At present there are
approximately 120 registered coatings manufacturers in
Thailand producing over 400,000 tons valued at US$730
Million. Over 50% of market volume is produced by
just five major international paint companies- TOA,
Nippon, Akzo Nobel, Kansai and Jotun. The proportion of
architectural paint produced in Thailand declined from
over 90% in 1980 to 60% in 2007 due to continuous
expansion of automotive industry, electrical/electronic
goods, toys furniture and food industry. This represents
about 50% of the total market value. In 2008 the Thai
paint industry reported 5-10% growth, double the size of
the country’s GDP. Despite domestic turmoil and global
economic downturn, the business atmosphere seems to be
better in the second quarter of this year. |

|
Summary |
: |
The Philippine Coatings
market is largely independent and for the most part
domestic. Consequently, major players are mainly local.
Due to the uniqueness of the market demands,
multinational players find it difficult to stay in the
game, much less participate as a new entrant. The three
main related industries, Paint, Ink, and Adhesives, are
very well organized and are individually represented by
specialized industry associations.
A presentation of the
market volumes and industry specializations as well as
technical and commercial demands will be made. On the
other hand, due to limited petrochemical expertise,
Chemical Process Industries in the Philippines such as
the Paint industry, relies heavily on imported raw
materials. This makes China one of the most important
sources of upstream merchandise. |
