Food products, both fresh produce and processed foods, are transported, distributed and stored within the country, and a considerable quantum is also exported. Proper packaging of these commodities is a pre-requisite to maintain the quality attributes, as well as to reduce wastage caused by physical , mechanical, chemical and biological factors. There is increasing concern especially of packaging components and plastic packaging materials for food contact applications in China as well as in other regions. In this presentation, we will use Joncryl® DFC series smart packaging product line as an example and will elaborates the direct food contact applications of food packaging. Hands-on formulation tips for different applications will be introduced at the presentation. |

Corrosion protection is a permanent challenge. Experts estimate that one-third of all iron and steel products manufactured worldwide in a year are used to replace corroded structural components. A matter of equal importance is sustainable corrosion protection. The primary focus here is on systems with high durability and a long lifespan, good color/gloss retention and stability, which at the same time are able to combine commercial needs with environment requirements. The lecture has the aim to illustrate in a comprehensive form the advantages of combing the best properties of silicone and epoxy chemistry by taking SILIKOPON® EF as an example for this new silicone-epoxy hybrid technology. Based on test results and studies the findings were presented and benefits explained. |

A bunch of challenges occurred when a coatings formulation go "GREEN". Both predicted and unexpected side effect were experienced and encountered when trying to reduce VOC in a paint formulation. An innovation "GREEN" additives package from Elementis Specialties is the solution for VOC reduction in waterborne coatings without losing key performances. Meantime, an intorduction of new generation Zero VOC pourable and pumpable functionalized liguid organic thixotrope for Solvent based coatings and it's applications. |

Wetting and dispersing additives are used since decades to stabilize pigment particles in solvent-borne and aqueous coating formulations. Besides pigment wetting their main function is to prevent flocculation of the particles by keeping them separated through steric stabilization. To be effective in this way, the additives have to adsorb onto the pigment surface and build a protective layer around the particles. Such additives must have in their chemical structure one or more anchor groups for the adsorption on the pigment surface and several polymer segments that are compatible with the binder system and create steric stabilization. |

Using an innovative proprietary process, the Easy-to-disperse innovative preparation are prepared by combining a novel acrylic resin, additive compound and high quality pigments. The dust-free preparations can be solubilized in water or a waterborne binder within 45 minutes using a dissolver and small amounts of ammonia, amine or KOH resulting in a paste with broad compatibility with most of the waterborne raw materials. Conventional milling is no longer necessary. In the presentation we will focus on the performance of this innovative preparation in different coatings system showing evaluation results and application examples. |

With the publishing of the new national regulation for emulsion paints in China, more and more manufacturers start to care about the VOC content, APEO content and other non-environment friendly / toxicant additives in their paints recipe. Clariant would like to share our experience on how to select suitable additives with APEO-free, low VOC and Formaldehyde-free; and, to support the customers to find the solution to achieve the national and global regulations' requirements so that the manufacturers' paints could be high quality and environment friendly. |
