In this presentation, Perstorp will showcase how products, based on a traceable mass balance concept, contribute to a sustainable shift in the coatings value chain by offering lowest product carbon footprint whilst enabling the shift towards renewable raw materials. These readily available products are drop-in replacements and contribute to sustainable and responsible sourcing of circular raw materials.

 

About the Speakers:

Mr. David Engberg
David Engberg is Business Development Manager Resins and Coatings with a focus on specialty products and solutions for Radiation curing.
David is the chairman of Radtech Europes Marketing Committee and have over 15 years of experience in the chemical industry working in various business and technical roles.
He has a MSc. in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering LTH, in Lund, Sweden.


Dr. Guoqiu Gui
PhD, more than 30 years in the chemical industry. Serve many world-class chemical companies, such as BASF (petrochemical, coatings), Ciba (epoxy materials), Eastman (chemical intermediates, coatings), Johnson Diversy (various cleaning and disinfection products). Have a certain understanding of the production, research and development and market of many chemical products. He joined Perstorp in 2019 and is responsible for technical innovation in the Asia Pacific region.

Abstract:

Clariant has been dedicating to the transformation to green solutions in past years. In alignment with China’s dual-carbon target, this will significantly facilitate the sustainable growth for coating and other industries. To address the over reliance of fossil-based products and reduce the carbon emission and footprint effectively, Clariant has upgraded many coating additives with bio-based raw materials to make 100% green products. Success has been demonstrated in emulsion polymerization, coating and colorant formulations.

 

About the Speaker:

Jörg Rüger is Head of Global Application Development at Clariant’s Colors and Coatings Competence Center, where he started as Manager Global Application Development for the Paints and Coatings business segment in October 2014. Before that, he held various roles in product development, product manufacturing and quality control as well as in the integration of modular paint manufacturing. Rüger is located at the Clariant Innovation Center at Hoechst Industrial Park in Frankfurt, Germany.

Abstract:

With the growth of LED curing, there is a need for new photoinitiators (PI) with strong absorption in the UV-A range (high reactivity), but limited absorption in the visible light (low yellowing). At the same time there are toxicological concerns for alpha amino ketones (AAK), which require high performance alternatives. IGM will present a new glyoxylate type PI with excellent results in clear and pigmented systems for both Hg- and LED curing.

 

About the Speaker:

Mr. Stefan van den Branden Obtained a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Louvain in Belgium. 
Spent almost 30 years in technical leadership roles in the coatings and packaging industry across Europe.
A big part of his career was with Allnex (formerly UCB and Cytec). His last role there was as Global Technology Director overlooking all resin, crosslinker and additives developments for UV, waterborne, solvent borne and powder technologies.  
Since 2019 he is Vice President of Innovation and Technology at IGM Resins covering photoinitiator, resins and additive technologies.

Abstract:

Based on novel bio-based technology, Cardolite has developed several low free amine version solvent-free epoxy curing agents and active epoxy diluents which could decrease system’s VOC and increase its bio-content on the one side, also hold fast cure time, excellent mechanical and chemical properties on the other side. In addition, CNSL-based solvent-free epoxy curing agents could provide good recoat properties and anti-corrosion properties. This talk will present the latest performance data of new bio-based products in protective coating/adhesive systems.

Mr. Jing Li, MS, Technical Service Manager in Cardolite  Chemical(Zhuhai)Co., Ltd. He has worked on the product evaluation, coating formulation and technical support. He earned MS degree from Dept. of Chemical engineering at Tianjin University and hold over 20 years working experience in anti-corrosion coatings.

Asahi Kasei Group, founded in 1922, is a leading chemical company in Japan. DURANATE™ is the name of hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI)-based polyisocyanates, which has been used as the cross-linking material in high weatherability polyurethane paint. With our advanced technology, we are consistently making effort to environmental sustainability with high added value. In this presentation, we would like to introduce the applications of DURANATE™ in blocked polyisocyanates for 1KPU coatings, and latest breakthrough in the low-temp cure system.

Abstract:

As industrial paint transfer from solvent-based to water-based, we are faced with many new challenges. SANOPCO, as a specializing in additives company, launched a new dispersant for water-based 2K resin, which solves the problem of stability of resin compared with traditional dispersants.
In addition, we have also begun to develop new polyurethane resin, which show excellent adhesion and hardness compared to traditional one.

About the Speaker:

Mr. Hao Hu is the TS&D manager working at Dow Coating Materials. He takes the responsibility of technical support and application development of architectural coatings. In his 15 years of experience in the coatings industry, he has been mainly focused on the binder, dispersant, rheology modifier, and surfactant application in the field of coatings. He has rich experience and a deep understanding of the designation of paint formulation, evaluation of paint performance, and development of coating raw materials. In addition, he is familiar with the market development trend and customers’ unmet needs. He is the primary author or co-author of several published articles and has made many technical presentations.

Why is it very difficult to stabilize ZnO in water-based paint? Why do different extenders/pigments show very different pH at identical Zeta potential? Are there unlike thickening mechanisms of rheology modifier in pure water and in water-based coatings? ……Based on the discussion on this kind of questions, we are trying to generate more reasonable mechanisms to explain some complicated and confused phenomena in water-based coatings. And try to open more ideas to the solutions on the key issues in water-based coatings.

Dr. Weijiang Yang, the senior technical engineer in Rezux Chemical Co., Ltd.. During more than 30 years professional work, Dr. Yang is focusing on the TS&D for emulsions coatings. He has made a great contribution to innovation products and industrial national standards. Meanwhile, he was granted many industrial awards including Second Class Prizes of Shanghai Science & Technology Progress Award.

About the Speaker:

Mr. Luo Kui, born in October 1967, graduated from Wuhan University in 1989, and joined Changsha Zuxing New Materials Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Zuxing New Materials) in August 2010. He is one of the core founders of Zuxing New Materials. He is currently the chairman of the company’s supervisory board, chief engineer, and concurrently serves as director of vacuum metallized pigment research laboratory and director of water-based aluminum pigment research laboratory of company's research center. Mr. Luo Kui is a senior expert in the aluminum pigment industry and the first drafter of the industry standard HG/T 2456.4 of vacuum metallized aluminium pigment suspension.

Dr. Wei Xia works as an R&D scientist at Shanghai Pioneer Chemicals. He earned his bachelor degree at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in applied chemistry. After that, he finished his master courses at National University of Singapore, followed by his phd study at Technical University of Munich. He subsequently started his postdoctoral research in polymer chemistry at Dalian University of Technology, which was financially supported by German Research Foundation. After joining Pioneer Chemicals, he is mainly responsible for the development of novel acrylic resins.

Abstract:

Surfactants are a fundamental element in today's coatings and adhesives formulations, as they impart necessary functional properties to help formulators achieve their desired performance goals. However, surfactants have a tendency to leach out of a formulation and migrate to the surface. Solvay's new APE-free polymerizable surfactant technology, Reactsurf® 2490, addresses the limitations of conventional anionic surfactants and alternative technologies by improving emulsion performance to deliver superior functional and aesthetic benefits in architectural coatings  and adhesives.

 

About the Speaker:

She graduated from Fudan University, majoring in polymer chemistry and physics. She worked in the inks, coatings and emulsion polymerization industry as new product development and technical service for more than ten years. And she joined Solvay in 2018.

Abstract:

We will introduce Nouryon's Expancel product, a hollow structure microsphere. Expancel can be used as light weight filler, foaming agent, all in one. In addition, we are going to share the successful applications of Expancel used in Multi color paint with sand, elastomeric coatings, reflective insulation coatings, and protective coatings. Finally, we believe that due to the characteristics of light weight, extraordinary elasticity and cost reduction, Expancel is expected to be used in coating products such as waterproof, artistic, thermal/sound insulation and shock absorption products in the future.
