Starting from 2008, CCJ will
be produced completely by CTP (Computer-to-plate) offset printing. Therefore, printing films (litho) from advertisers will NOT be
accepted.
A. READY TO PRINT FILE
All advertisers providing
their own paged design shall provide ready-to-print files, meeting the
following requirements.
FILE FORMAT
1. Using Adobe InDesign /
PageMaker: PDF File
- High resolution pdf at 300
dpi.
- File should be saved with
bleed (3mm) and cropping marks.
- All text should be
embedded, or outlined as vector graph.
- All imported images must
be embedded, not linked. Images should be in CMYK mode, not RGB.
- Other possible
application: QuarkXpress
2. Using Adobe Illustrator /
Macromedia Freehand: EPS File
- File should be set for
high resolution output at 2400 dpi.
- File should be saved with
bleed (3mm) and cropping marks.
- All text should be
outlined/converted to path as vector graph.
- All imported images must
be embedded, not linked. Images
should be in CMYK mode, not RGB.
- File should be saved as
CMYK EPS.
- Other possible
applications: Adobe InDesign / QuarkXpress
In all cases Macintosh
(Apple) files is preferred.

Please do not send
the following files:
- Open files from InDesign /
PageMaker / Photoshop / QuarkXpress. Please convert to PDF or EPS
first.
- Files generated from
Microsoft Words, Excel, PowerPoint and other Office programmes.
- Complete paged layout as
JPG (JPEG) / TIF (TIFF) file.
If advertiser is creating
files from applications other than those stated above, please contact
the publisher for file compatibility first.

B. PRODUCTION FILES:
Creation of
a
New Version from current layout
If production work is
required from the publisher – for example, advertiser has a file in
English and would like the publisher to create a Chinese version from
it, please provide:
- Complete Layout file in
English as pdf (high or low resolution). This will be for the reference
of publisher’s design team for text placement in accordance of size /
color / effects etc.
- High resolution ‘Neutral
file’ (working file) with all English text removed, showing just
illustrations, logos etc that will appear on the new layout. File
format can be in High-resolution PDF, EPS or InDesign (CS2).
- If advertiser is to supply
their own translated text, please supply text file in Microsoft Word or
Simple Text file.
- Layout file in Chinese
will be supplied to advertiser for approval prior to printing.
- Translation/production
cost will be quoted separately.
C. PRODUCTION FILES:
New
Layout
If design work is required
from
the publisher, for example, advertiser has some product illustrations,
company logo, a
slogan etc., but do not have
a layout yet – the publisher could provide professional layout work for
them. Please provide:
- Images: High resolution
files (jpg / tiff) in 300 dpi at original scale. Photos or printed
samples will also be accepted. Please carefully wrap with backing board
with waterproof materials (to avoid creasing, folding and other possible
damages during transport) and courier to the publisher address.
- Text: Desired text to be
put on the ad should be typed and saved as: Microsoft Word file or
Simple Text file (PC / MAC)
- Scratch: Please include a
hand-drawn with instructions for reference.
- Layout file will be
supplied to advertiser for approval prior to printing and production
cost will be quoted separately.
In cases of A and B, please
supply a colour proof for printing reference. Colour proof should be
sent to the publisher address below. Text of journal will be printed
with matt art paper, while cover will be printed with glossy art paper.
Brand, weight, whiteness, opacity of paper, as well as brand / model of
printing ink used will vary in accordance to stock available from
market. Therefore, all colour proof supplied will be used as reference
only. If a proof is missing, standard CMYK colour density will be
applied.
Publisher cannot accept any
liability for colour variation/difference.
