Chen received his doctorate in Materials-Oriented Chemical Engineering from East China University of Science & Technology in 2011, a postdoctoral researcher at med-X Research Institute of Shanghai Jiaotong University from 2012 to 2014, a visiting scholar at the Chemistry Department of Massachusetts University. He also worked in the College of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering of Shanghai University of Engineering Science in 2014. Chen has engaged in the structural design of novel nanocomposites, such as polymer brushes, functional magnetic particles, modified composite pigments, etc. He has also researched on the product application in biomedical and functional coatings, such as protein separation & purification, waterborne resins as well as functional coatings. Chen has worked with various enterprises for technical consultation and product development. He is a special reviewer of several professional journals. He got involved in 10 research projects, published over 40 papers in some elite journals, such as Macromolecules and Nanoscale, which have been cited more than 1000 times with H index of 17. Chen attained 5 Chinese invention patents.
