Asahi Kasei Group, founded in 1922, is a leading chemical company in Japan. DURANATE™ is the name of hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI)-based polyisocyanates, which has been used as the cross-linking material in high weatherability polyurethane paint. Abstract:

Capa® polycaprolactone (PCL) polyols are used to enhance both sustainbility and performance in various coating technologies, including 2K polyurethanes, radical cure coatings, and polyurethane dispersions.  Capa polyols are low viscosity, 100% solid polymers that are used to produce high solids, low VOC coatings.  This study explores the performance benefits achieved when low molecular weight Capa polyols are blended with acrylic polyols in 2K coatings.  We will also demonstrate how Capa polyols are used to improve  polyurethane dispersions.  Then we will summarize how Capa polyols can be incorporated in radical cure coatings.  The ability of low molecular weight Capa polyols to modify crosslinking within the polymer network and subsequently improve the performance of a coating system will be discussed.

 

About the Speakers:

Chuck Jones is the Market Segment Manger for Coatings at Ingevity and has global responsibility.  He also served as President of the 2025 Eastern Coatings Show.  Prior to his current role, he was Technical Manager for Industrial Coatings at BASF Corporation.  He has worked in the industry for more than 15 years, and is currently located in Charlotte, NC.  He earned his B.S. degree from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University.

Eric Wu is the Regional Sales Manager of South China & S.E.A region. He worked as the R&D manager in coating field for 5 years and marketing & sales manager for more than 16 years in coating raw materials. Now he is based in Guangzhou, China. He graduated from Guangdong Univerity of Technology, earning his Bachelors's degree of Chemistry and Master's degree of project management.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Harvey Xia works as R&D manager at Pioneer Chemicals. He earned his bachelor degree at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in applied chemistry. After that, he finished his master courses at National University of Singapore, followed by his phd study at Technical University of Munich. He subsequently started his postdoctoral research in polymer chemistry at Dalian University of Technology, which was financially supported by German Research Foundation (DFG). After joining Pioneer Chemicals, he is mainly responsible for the development of novel solid acrylic resin.

Abstract:

The automotive industry is undergoing it's most profound transformation in decades. Beyond electrification and digitalization, design has become a decisive factor in how brands connect with consumers. In this context, Color, Material, and Finish (CMF) are no longer secondary styling elements, but central to creating emotional, sustainable, and differentiating experiences. 

This talk will explore where car design is heading, with a special focus on the rising influence of CMF design. It will highlight how effect pigments can unlock new levels of depth, movement, and sensory appeal—enabling designers to craft the next generation of CMF experiences that truly resonate with drivers and passengers.

 

About the Speaker:

Mr. Dominik Eisend is multidisciplinary designer who loves to explore and to create with materials, colors and shapes. In his projects he crosses various disciplines of design. 

In his role as Director of Design at SUSONITY he visualizes the future in color and design and listens closely to what is needed in the market. He steers & drives global Pull Marketing activities within the fields of COATINGS, INDUSTRIALS AND COSMETICS.
The huge line up of innovative effect pigments and functional materials of SUSONITY creates the perfect playground for his ideas and creativity.

Mr. Dominik has a background in transportation interior design and is a CMF expert. Prior to his role at SUSONITY he has worked for several OEMs such as Mercedes-Benz, AMG and FORD as well as for a German-Chinese automotive start up where he was leading the CMF(color material finish) design team. To forecast the future and to exchange with likeminded, Dominik is on the board of directors at CMG (color marketing group) with is the globally leading organization for color and material forecasting.

He sees CMF design as one of the most important ingredients for outstanding products and brands to create emotional experiences.

Abstract:

2,5-Bis(hydroxymethyl) Furan(BHMF) is derived from renewable source and provides excellent anti-corrosion performance with low viscosity and high bio carbon contents(>90%). The unique hetero-cyclic molecular structure contributes improving adhesion strength and corrosion resistance with a dilution effect for solvent free coatings system. Good compatibility with conventional epoxy resin is providing an opportunity to substitute current epoxy reactive diluents to BHMF epoxy with improving anti-corrosion performance for protective and marine coatings.

Abstract:

Asahi Kasei Corporation is one of the suppliers of Polycarbonate Diol (PCD). Durability of PCD as a polymer diol compared to polyether and polyester polyols is highly recognized by a wide variety of industries. Asahi Kasei’s PCD, also known as DURANOL™, is designed with excellent mechanical properties which allow the product to improve the performance of polyurethane. Properties and applications of hydrophilic, low viscosity and bio-based PCD will be introduced in this presentation.

 

About the Speaker:

Yoichi Hirose has been a researcher for Asahi KASEI corporation since 2022. He previously worked in the display industry, focusing on polymer materials for LCDs. He holds a master’s degree in Organic chemistry from Tohoku University. He is responsible for R&D of PCD and technical services.

Ms. Tünde Hahn studied chemical engineering at Babes Bolyai University in Cluj Napoca, in Transylvania/Romania. In 1997, she joined Farben Distler, a Bavarian coatings manufacturer as a laboratory manager. In 2006 she moved to Schlenk Metallic Pigments GmbH in Roth/Germany and took over the responsibility for the laboratory for aqueous coatings applications. 
Since 2015, she has held the position of Head of Automotive and Industrial Coatings at SCHLENK.

Abstract:

The Coatings Technology Platform of Dow Industrial Solutions has been committed to technological innovation and product upgrading in the two major fields of coatings and emulsion polymerization. In recent years, it has focused on localized production and successively launched new products. In emulsion polymerization industry, Dow has introduced the nonionic emulsifier TERGITOL Pro series of surfactants. This emulsifier not only has excellent emulsification ability but also can enhance the wetting capacity of emulsions. In coatings industry, to meet the demand for further improvement of environmental friendliness in architectural coatings, Dow has developed low SVOC film-forming aids, DALPAD A Plus and DOWANOL BD-25, to meet the needs of different customers for film-forming aids. In terms of performance, these two film-forming aids can not only improve the stability of coatings but also maintain good scrub resistance and low-temperature crack resistance of coatings. The newly launched non-PFAS anti-tackling agent TRITON FCX-800 can not only enhance the anti-tackling property of paint films but also improve their stain resistance and dirt resistance. In addition, the low-foaming wetting agent TERGITOL CA-90, the dispersion stabilizer TERGITOL EA-408C, and the low-odor pH regulator UCAR MF 90CN will also be introduced.

Graduated from East China University of Science and Technology, joined Dow Chemical Company in 2006 and is currently the technical manager and global application technology leader for Coating/Ink/Adhesive Platform. The report will introduce the versatile role of colloidal silica in sustainable surface protection, such as non-stick coating and metal surface treatment. Non-stick ceramic coating including colloidal silica, as replacement of conventional PTFE-based coating, is more environmental-friendly and the mechanical properties and the temperature stability are improved. Addition of silane-modified colloidal silica in formulation can improve compatibility and meanwhile enhance adhesion and corrosion resistance.

Nouryon's newly developed general-purpose cellulose ether demonstrates excellent compatibility with different types of hectorite, especially those that are highly reactive.
